Celebrating Emily & Kirk

This weekend, I had the pleasure of joining forces with a sweet friend and fellow UK classmate (Emily Blaeser/Beavers) to throw a couples shower for my beautiful bestie, Emily and her strapping hubby-to-be, Kirk. Arn't they precious?

  

Now, I don't know if y'all have ever been to a couple's shower, but they can be a little dicey. Guys dread these sorts of things for the most part. Fortunately, we had the magic solution - throw in a UK game watch. The guys were like putty in our hands...

Meanwhile, the ladies were upstairs enjoying typical showerish festivities...

 
It was the perfect evening to celebrate such a well-loved couple and to launch them into wedding season. Happy Engagement to Auntie Em and Kirkers - can't wait to be part of your special day, and more importantly, to journey with you as you do life as husband and wife. The best is yet to come...

Nesting While I Can

I am nesting like crazy.

I can't stop myself.

Just when I try to sit down and put my feet up, I notice an empty DVD case poking out from under the couch. Expired salad dressing in the fridge calls my name. A trip to the restroom reminds me that I need to declutter my bathroom vanity.

I have a real problem. And isn't admitting the problem the first step?

The real victim in this whole ordeal is my husband. He is constantly moving boxes, climbing on ladders and figuring out ways to get rid of/donate stuff that is making its way to our storage room.

And don't make me show you the picture of all of the food he had to load up and throw away when he came home from work today (all of the food on the left side of the pic).

This is embarassing.

I think that my concern somewhere inside is that I won't have any time to do these sorts of things when Warren arrives. I mean, I'm hoping I have time to breathe and the energy to brush my teeth, let alone do the laundry and keep my kitchen floor halfway clean.

To those of you moms out there with two kiddos, at what point (age of the new baby) did you feel like you could keep a somewhat normal household again?

I need some hope.

Wordless Wednesday

28 Months

1. We pray together every night. I start it out by saying “thank you, Jesus for something that happened during the day.” You take it from there and “thank Gigi” for everything from your friends to boogers.

2. You are obsessed with spitting again. I am less than pleased.

3. You run around like you own the place when we set up for church at Southside Elementary on Sunday mornings.

4. Your Sunday school teachers are Mrs. Susan and Mrs. Tiffany.

5. Your teachers at Parent's Day Out at Simpsonville Baptist are Mrs. Becky and Mrs. Jill.

6. Mrs. Becky's words - “He is either running or sitting. Walker doesn't walk.”

7. You always smell like Mrs. Becky when I pick you up, so I know she gives you lots of affection, which warms my heart.

8. You like for me and daddy to hold you like a baby and rock you back and forth sometimes.
   

9. Your basketball obsession is heating back up with UK's season in full swing.

10. You like to stand on the chair and “dunk!”

11. If you hear anyone “toot” you are quick to rat them out.
    

12. You would eat 40 frozen blueberry waffles every day if we would let you.

13. You can count to ten and say your ABC's with few little letters blurred together now and then:).

14. If we're at home and you need to go #1 on the potty, you let me know and run to the bathroom.

15. You like to tinkle standing up like daddy. When you go on the “white seat” (big potty) you stand up on the seat and go.

16. You get a treat when you go (a skittle – hope Dr. Kirby isn't reading this!!!;)

17. You don't like to go #2 on the potty.

18. When I point to my tummy and ask who it is you say “Baby Warren.”

19. When you want to cuddle, you grab my leg, arm, face, anything you can reach on my body and say “come ere.”

20. You also do it when you know that you have done something naughty.

21. You are sleeping in your car bed by yourself all night.

22. Naps are more difficult sometimes.

23. I asked your daddy what stands out about you right now and he said your balance and how agile you are.

24. You had three shots this month, and I am SO PROUD of how you handled them like a big boy. You cried when the needles went in, but you stopped as soon as the nurse was finished and said “be nice!”

25. If I could bottle and sell your energy, I would be a billionaire.

26. If I could steal some of it for myself I would look much more rested:).

27. You love to identify different kids of vehicles (trains, semi trucks, dump trucks, tractors...) when you are riding in the car.

28. Being your mommy leaves me deep in laughter, praying for guidance and thankful for the little and big moments that make our relationship so intimate. I will always love you.

Five Flops & Something Fabulous

This week had its share of flops...

1. We had dinner guests and I think it's safe to say they didn't care for the chili I made. Usually I can tell when a meal is a flop, but I actually thought this one tasted good. Doh!

2. I have been tired this week. Which has made me a tad grouchy. Okay, a lotta grouchy.

3. My hair needs a trim bad. I've got byways and triways breaking off at the ends.

4. I woke up this morning to realize I had drooled on my pillow. Back to #2.

5. My pantry scares me. Pots, plastic storage containers, peanut butter & a cheese grater all thrown in on top of each other. Nesting. Has. Begun.

But don't you just love how life throws in something fabulous every now and then to keep us trucking?

This week, it has been sweet baby kicks.

Warren has made herself known day and night. As I tell Walker, she's tickling my tummy. I only decided to use the word "tickle" after I told him that Baby Warren was kicking me and he said "not nice." It really is more like fists and feet pounding on my belly.

One of my favorite parts of pregnancy is feeling my babies move.

No wonder I can feel her jabs! She's getting bigger by the day. And so I am by the way;). Expanding belly shots as proof to come...

Playing with Paxton

What do you do when you're trapped inside on a cold, snowy day?

Invite a friend over, of course!

Yesterday, Paxton came to keep Walker company while his mommy (Jamie) and his 3 1/2 month old sister (Ansley) taught me a thing or two about life with two little ones two and under.

There is something so wonderful about having fellow mommies going through the same transitions at the same time. In this case, Jamie has a few months on me, so I did my best to soak up any tips...

I love their routine of reading together in their bed as a family of four before bedtime. Usually I read to Walker in his rocker, but that won't work once Warren comes since it's not big enough for all of us. So we are definitely going to steal that great idea and throw both kiddos in our bed for some books as part our of nite-nite routine.

She also gave me the idea to use nursing time with Warren as a time to make Walker feel special by having "his spot" next to where I nurse and rubbing his back while I feed Warren.

I learned the most just by watching Jamie interact with Paxton while tending to Ansley. Our parenting styles are similar and our boys have kindred personalities, so it gave me a peek into what life will be like in a few months.

I must say that one of the things that I am looking forward to the most is dressing Warren up in precious clothes like Ansley. This child does not even look like a baby - she has such a grown-up, beautiful face. And she is an easy, chill baby.

Walker thinks she's pretty cool too. Although her eyes peeping out seem to be saying "help me!" Ha.

One of my favorite moments was watching the boys play hide and seek behind the curtains.

I think I would go completely crazy at home on these cold winter days without friends to keep us company. Thanks to the Bloyds for coming down I64 from Lexington to brighten our Monday morning!

See to Believe

You know what they say. Sometimes you gotta see it to believe it.

That's why I headed to Lexington Fetal Photography this past Saturday to confirm that we hare having a girl. Because for some reason I was convinced that there was a little boy in my belly even after the tech at my anatomy ultrasound said it was a girl.

Maybe it was the phone call from a friend on our way to the doctor's office to tell us about how his ultrasound tech told him and his wife they were having a girl only to find out it was a boy at delivery.

Or it could be the fact that there is an overabundance of males in the Webb family.

Or maybe, just maybe, it was the fact that deep down I was scared to let myself believe that I would ever experience a daughter. Even though I never had that thought consciously.

All doubts were hushed when the very first shot on the screen was my child pressing her bottom against the probe. No doubt, we're having a girl. Ha.

Nana, Mingie & Aunt Angie (and Baby Hank in utero) were all there to experience the special time.

Cindy was wonderful. She's a mom to three, a UK fan and a wonderful technician. We spent nearly an hour from start to finish, and I never felt rushed.  She seemed to be just as excited as the rest of us!

I want to share a picture with the reminder that these were taken at 19 1/2 weeks gestation. The ideal time for 3D/4D ultrasounds is between 28 and 32 weeks. So Warren has still not blossomed into her full baby form. I made a couple of notes to help you see what's what:).

Operation Pink

What am I doing at 9:45 p.m. on a Sunday night?

Brainstorming baby girl nursery ideas of course.

I just had to share because decorating is a process, and I want to keep y'all involved in every step of the way so you can share lots of great tips to fine tune my ideas.

A conversation with my friend Kelley on Wednesday night got me dreaming about my daughter's nursery. Her fun suggestion to incorporate quotes/advice/scripture from the closest women in my life gave me a inspiration to get going on "Operation Pink."

Because you better believe that if I am going to have a daughter there will be some forms of blush and bashful in her sleeping quarters (If you haven't watched the movie Steel Magnolias, you might not get this reference. Please rent and watch at once before I am forced to discontinue our friendship.)

So...here are some ideas floating around in my sleepy head.

I am going to use the same furniture, light fixtures & bedding from Walker's room.

I'm obsessed with paper mobiles. Here's a stock photo of the one hanging over Walker's vacant crib.

 

I purchased a butterfly paper chandelier from Pottery Barn Kids last night to go over baby girl's crib. It's sold out on-line, but I found it at their store in Oxmoor Mall in Louisville. It's similar to the one below, only the butterflies are pink & white.

If you look closely at the bedding, which is fairly gender neutral, you will see some pink. The nursery has a chair rail, so I am thinking of painting a light pink above the chair rail (suggestions on great pinks anyone?) and making the wall below the chair rail white and using a stencil to create a subtle, modern pattern in the same pink on top of the white.

Here is the stencil I am loving today (with white as the base and the light pink as the trellis).

I think it will add a modern feel to an otherwise traditional room and give me custom color flexibility that I couldn't find with wallpaper.

Rugs bring so much warmth to a room, but they can be expensive. I love this rug from Pottery Barn Kids, but I am going to find a less expensive option. Hmmm...affordable ideas to come in my next update.
